Preparation and specification
Start with the condition of the room. Uneven repairs, old lining paper and changes in sheen can remain visible through a new colour. The preparation allowance needs to describe how these will be addressed.

Planning the work
Agree a room sequence that leaves essential spaces usable. Allow for drying between coats and discuss when furniture can return against newly painted walls.
